Search Assignments Second, there has been greater movement of executives venturing outside their current companies for career advancement. This is a change from what we saw throughout 2009 and into the first half of 2010. Due to the struggling economy, many executives preferred to stay with their employers, thus avoiding the risks incumbent with making a move. This trend was especially prevalent with executives in the human resources, information technology, and engineering functions. However, in speaking with such ones over the past several months, we have found that many have taken on new roles, and still others remain open to both the idea of a new employer as well as relocation, given the improving economy and an increasingly more stable housing market.
Over the past quarter, we have remained active with several of our key accounts, and are pleased to share a selection of searches at Dover Corporation and Ward Leonard Electric Company.
Trends
We have seen two distinct trends emerge over the past quarter. First is the increasing demand for leaders that bring a global perspective to their role. More and more, companies are seeking the expertise of executives who understand how to mobilize and motivate a global team, and who bring an appreciation for cultural differences and how those can support the business strategy. Even organizations that are focused in North America have expressed an interest in executives who can operate on the global scene.
Recent Events
You have likely read about Greenhouse Scholars in the pages of our past newsletters. The organization is a Boulder-based non-profit that provides support to high-performing, under-resourced college students. They offer personal, professional, and financial support to these students, better preparing them to succeed in their professional endeavors and make significant contributions in their communities.
The students invited to participate in the program are some of the brightest young leaders that White Lake Partners has ever seen. Each Scholar has demonstrated true leadership and positive community involvement, and is enrolled at top schools across the nation. If your organization offers internships and you would be interested in providing an opportunity to a Scholar, please contact Susie Hayes to learn how you can get involved. She can be reached at shayes@greenhousescholars.org.
Over the past two years, White Lake Partners has offered both professional expertise and time to support Greenhouse Scholars. We were excited to participate in a recent fundraiser for the organization which was held just outside of Denver. The "Dinner Royale" event was a casino-themed silent auction attended by the NFL's Floyd Little, Emmitt Smith and Curtis Martin, among other notables.
